“Modeling color rendition and color discrimination with average fidelity, average gamut, and gamut shape”

Tony’s dissertation explored human responses to various light spectra with strategically varied average fidelity, average gamut, and gamut shape. The results highlight the influence of red rendering on participant responses and demonstrate the necessity of a color rendering graphic to predict participant ratings. Additionally, the results show that available average fidelity and average gamut metrics are poor predictors of color discrimination ability of LED sources and Tony’s dissertation proposes a custom metric with strong predictive power. Overall, Tony hopes to bridge the gap between research and industry with this research work by translating complex colorimetric concepts for a general audience.

Teaching Experience

Penn State Sede Di Roma Study Abroad Program
Teaching Assistant – Daylighting Analysis of Roman Architecture
Summer 2014

During the Penn State Architectural Engineering’s 7-week study abroad program in Rome, Italy I served as teaching assistant for 35 undergraduate AE students as they explored daylighting in ancient Roman architecture, before the advent of electric lighting. In addition, I provided assistance with the design of their studio project, which required the design and incorporation of daylighting delivery systems.
